Divertimento present ‘An Elizabethan Panorama’ at the Court House, Thursday 26th March 7.30pm
On Thursday 26th March at 7.30pm Warwick choir Divertimento will present ‘An Elizabethan Panorama’ ……A Snapshot of the Age with music by Morley, Tallis and Ravenscroft amongst others. A selection of rounds, madrigals, folk songs and catches takes us from the Elizabethan gentleman’s home out into the streets of London, to the alehouse and off into the countryside beyond. An evening of music, words and the simple pleasures of life.
If you are not familiar with Divertimento then this is from their website at www.divertimento.org.uk ………..
Divertimento is a group of twenty or so singers. The number varies from time to time but the one thing which never changes is our passion for singing and all things vocal.
Our programmes are mainly made up of unaccompanied pieces in almost any style you can think of. We love sacred and secular music, from the Renaissance right through to the present day, and from all around the world. We sing in English and various European languages, as well as fa la la and doo be doo. We’ve even had the odd go at a couple of African languages. And Welsh.
We do also include longer works from time to time, accompanied by piano, organ and occasionally by a small orchestra. And we have many very talented musicians within the group who treat us and our audiences to some very special performances on flute, clarinet, recorder, saxophone, guitar, harpsichord, violin, viola, double bass, kazoo …
We’re sure you’ve got the idea. We simply love music and we always hope that this comes across in our performances. Come along to one and let us know what you think.
