At the History Society Fair

history-soc-fair-2On the final Saturday of the Warwick Words History Festival, Unlocking Warwick volunteers were displaying some of the work of the volunteer group and recruiting a few more members.

The fair was held in the Friends’ Meeting House in the High Street, with stands from a variety of local history and heritage groups, including among others Our Warwickshire, the Fusilier Museum, the Warwickshire Garden Trust, and the Warwickshire Local History Society.

Unlocking Warwick explained to visitors its role as the volunteer group based in the refurbished Jury Street Court House, helping to make the building a hub of community activity with period events such as the Regency Ball at Christmas, and dramatic re-enactments of court cases heard in the building in Victorian times, based on research at the County Record Office.

history-soc-fair-1Some of the visitors said they would drop into the Court House the following Thursday, October 13th, for the first of a planned monthly series of informal gatherings for tea, cake and chat, called ‘In the Ballroom’. Several said they would like to become involved in researching local history and have joined the Unlocking Warwick group.

If you would like to be on our mailing list to be able to join in some of our activities, send your details to the Secretary Rick Thompson by emailing info@unlockingwarwick.org

Our next meeting will be in the Court House at 6.30pm on Monday 24th October.
