Banks Close in May
Just a few yards up the High Street from the Court House is the part of Warwick which has the town’s banks. Well, the era of High Street Bank branches seems to be coming to an end.
On 30th May, the Natwest on the corner with Swan Street, will close its doors after some ninety years on that site. We don’t know yet what will become of that elegant building. And earlier this month, the HSBC Warwick branch on the opposite side of the road also closed.
Both banks say the reasons for the closures are that many more customers are using mobile and internet banking. A statement from HSBC says “More than 90% of our interactions with customers are now through our digital channels”.
They say that cash or cheque deposits can still be made at the Post Office in the Market Place.
The times they are a changin.
