Bees in the Ballroom
In fact there were no bees in the ballroom, but beekeeper Alan Deeley managed to fool the guests for a few minutes with buzzing sounds coming from a beehive he had brought in for the August session of our social tea, ‘In The Ballroom’.
He revealed that there was a loudspeaker in the hive relaying the sounds of a live hive, to the relief of those in the front row, and he went on to deliver a fascinating, witty and informative talk about beekeeping and the wonderful world of bees.
With the harvesting of the honey now taking place, he had brought some pure honey for tasting and selling from his hives at ‘Burton Green Honey’.
As usual, Helen Fellows had provided some excellent cakes for the tea and coffee after the talk, and her picture-quiz was on the theme of bees and insects, with the prize a jar of Burton Green honey.
In The Ballroom takes place in the Court House ballroom from 2pm to 4pm on the second Wednesday of each month. On September 11th there will be a musical afternoon with Trevor Langley celebrating the humorous songs of Flanders and Swann.
It costs just £3 to attend, to include the refreshments. These social teas are popular, so you must reserve a place by dropping in to the Visitor Information Centre, or by calling them on 01926 492212
