Cake and Carols In The Ballroom
Some early Christmas Carol Singing could be heard from the Court House on December 1st when the monthly social club called ‘In The Ballroom’ was entertained by the SingWell Community Choir, with guests joining in to sing well-known seasonal favourites.
‘In the Ballroom’ is an afternoon social gathering, currently held every four weeks on a Thursday. It’s a chance for local people to drop in to the Regency ballroom at the Jury Street Court House for tea, cakes and conversation, with a talk or entertainment. It’s organised by the Warwick Town Council and the Unlocking Warwick volunteers.
This time there was a quiz, a free raffle, and some excellent mince pies. The SingWell Community Choir is based at the Woodloes Community Centre, where they perform a wide range of music from jazz to show-tunes, often with some superb close harmonies.
For the carols in the ballroom, Trevor Langley accompanied the choir on keyboard, and the words of the carols were displayed on a screen so that everyone could join in with gusto.
The next gathering ‘In the Ballroom’ will be on January 5th from 2pm, when local historian Graham Sutherland will give a talk about local superstitions and traditions entitled ‘Cross Your Fingers’.
