Court House Tour 19th August
Come along to our next free Court House Tour at 11am on Saturday August 19th.
These 45-minute tours explain the history of the buildings on the central site at the Jury Street/Castle Street crossroads, and the recent refurbishment of the grade 1 listed Court House and Town Hall built by Francis Smith in 1725.
Note that there are no courts! The magistrates’ court moved to Leamington in the early 1970s and now the building houses the Council Chamber and Town Council offices, the Visitor Information Centre, the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum in the former kitchens in the basement (free entry) and the Regency ballroom.
As we wander round the outside of the building, the tour introduces visitors to the history of Warwick from it’s time as an Anglo-Saxon fort in the war against the Danes to its rebuilding after the Great Fire of Warwick.
Unlocking Warwick volunteers Paula and Rick will meet you in the Pageant Gardens behind the Court House. Numbers have to be limited, so it’s a case of getting there in good time to avoid disappointment.
