Court House Tour in the Sunshine

With the start of the Folk Festival and the Smith Street party, as well as the usual Saturday market, Warwick was very busy on 27th July, and our Court House Tour was well attended.

Some of the guests were local people who wanted to know more about Warwick’s history; others came from further afield, including a Chinese/American group from Rochester, New York.
They much appreciated David’s account of how the Court House was built nearly 300 years ago a few years after the Great Fire of Warwick had destroyed most of the centre of town. The Grade-1 listed building at the central crossroads houses the Town Council, the Visitor Information Centre, and the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum, with the restored Regency ballroom on the first floor used for dinners, meetings, dances, displays and community gatherings.

The next tour around the Court House will be on Saturday August 24th, from 10.30am to 11.15am. The tours are free to attend, but it’s a good idea to reserve a place at the Visitor Information Centre: 01926 492212.
