Court House Tours to Return in May

The popular Court House Tours organised by ‘Unlocking Warwick’ will return next month after the Covid-19 rules have changed on May 17th allowing up to 30 people to meet outdoors.

These free tours around the Grade-1 listed Court House in Jury Street have been a feature of the summer months in the centre of town for the past six years. During the 45-minute tour, guides tell the history of the administration of Warwick since Saxon times, and the construction of the present building on this central site after the Great Fire of Warwick in 1694.

Unlocking Warwick’s Chair, Karen Parker said, “The first tour will be on the Bank Holiday Saturday at the end of May and then there will be eight more weekend tour dates until mid-September. Pubs, restaurants, shops and various attractions in Warwick will have reopened on May 17th, so with social distancing observed, we will be pleased to introduce the growing numbers of visitors to the rich history of Warwick on our free tours.

We’ll hope to give guests a quick look at the 18th century Town Council Chamber and the lovely Regency Ballroom in the Court House, as well as outlining Warwick’s history from its origins in Anglo-Saxon times. We have been conducting these tours for the past six summers, and we know they are much appreciated both by visitors from far and wide, and local residents who want to know more about the Court House and their home town.

We will be keeping to two-metre social distancing and numbers will be limited, so it will be essential to book in advance”.

The tours start from Pageant Gardens at 11am, and are planned for May 29th, June 5th and 19th, July 3rd and 17th, August 7th and 28th, and September 4th and 19th. Book a place at the Visitor Information Centre in the Court House or call them on 01926 492212.
