First Heritage Tours proved popular

The first weekend of the Heritage Open Days period saw twenty-six people attending our Court House Tours on Saturday 7th September, despite indifferent weather.

Guests who live locally wanted to know about the history of the county town, founded in Anglo-Saxon times by Alfred the Great’s daughter; others were visitors to Warwick including families from Kent and Hereford.

Sue and John led two groups around the Grade-1 listed building, and told how it had been constructed nearly 300 years ago by the local architect and builder, Francis Smith, following the Great Fire of Warwick that destroyed much of the town centre in 1694.

The guests were extremely appreciative saying the tours were informative and enjoyable.

There will be another free Court House Tour on the second Heritage Open Days weekend – on Saturday 14th September from 10.30am to 11.15am. Numbers have to be limited, so if you want to come along, please reserve your place at the Visitor Information Centre: 01926 492212.
