Fond Memories of Elizabeth II
Several guests were seen dabbing their eyes as video of the late Queen’s funeral, accompanied by her favourite hymn, ‘The Lord’s My Shepherd’, was screened during the July edition of ‘In The Ballroom’, our monthly tea, talk and quiz.
The speakers were keen historians Mick Byrne and David Bardell who had prepared an audio-visual tribute to the late Queen. It reminded everyone what an extraordinary life she had led, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh whom she first met when she was just thirteen.
Guests declared the afternoon ‘marvellous’ and ‘moving’. They enjoyed Helen’s picture-quiz with questions about the royal couple. Four people tied on 22 points out of 25, so Helen asked a tie-breaker. How many great grandchildren did the Queen have? Do you know?
‘In The Ballroom’ is held at the Jury Street Court House on the second Wednesday of each month at 2pm. The next session on August 14th will be a talk and demonstration all about bees and beekeeping.
It is essential to book your place in advance for these popular monthly talks, so pop in to the Visitor Information Centre, or phone the team there on 01926 492212.
