Free Historic Walk June 8th
This Saturday, June 8th, why not join Paula Fletcher’s ‘Historic Warwick Walk’ around the centre of town, while she relates some of the history of Warwick and the dramatic events that have taken place here over the past eleven hundred years.
The walk starts at 10.30am at the Court House in Jury Street, and will last about 90 minutes. Paula, a professional tour guide, is offering this walk free of charge as part of Unlocking Warwick’s summer season of Court House Tours and occasional bespoke tours for groups. Meet at the Visitor Information Centre. The walk will include the Grade-1 listed Court House itself, built nearly 300 years ago by Francis Smith, the famed local architect. There will be a chance to see the resting place of the earls of Warwick in the medieval Beauchamp Chapel in St. Mary’s, and a look at the town’s most photographed building – The Lord Leycester Hospital beside the Westgate.
On the way Paula will point out other points of interest around the Market Place, and tell dark tales at the nearby execution site outside the buildings that housed the county jail and the Assizes. www.historicwarwickwalks.com
