The next free Court House Tour conducted by Unlocking Warwick volunteers will be on Saturday 9th September, as part of the Warwick Heritage Open Days weekend.

Starting at 11am, the tour round the old Court House and Town Hall in Jury Street lasts 45 minutes, and explains the history of the grade 1 listed building built in 1725. It also aims to give guests a flavour of the rich history of the county town which was founded in 914 by Aethelfleda the ‘Lady of the Mercians’, and devastated by fire in 1694.

Note that there are no longer any courts in the building. The magistrates’ court moved to Leamington in the 1970s. The building now contains the Town Council chamber and offices, the Visitor Information Centre, the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum in the basement and the restored Regency Ballroom on the first floor.

Numbers for the tours have to be limited for practical reasons, so it’s first come first served. Meet Karen in the Visitor Information Centre, and the tour will start at 11am in the Pageant Gardens behind the building.
