Heroes and Villains in Harmony
On 7th July, the superb local singing ensemble ‘Divertimento’ performed a concert of close harmony singing and readings on the theme of Heroes and Villains to an appreciative audience in the Court House Ballroom.
The Heroes collection ranged from stirring military music to Gilbert and Sullivan characters, and Villains included Ward the Pirate, Macavity the Cat, and the notorious local highwayman Bendigo Mitchell.
Founded in Leamington in 1983, Divertimento is a group of around 25 singers who specialise in unaccompanied music, but also perform works accompanied by piano, organ or a small orchestra. Musical Director Sheila Koch is a member of the Association of British Choral Directors.
The Regency ballroom is an ideal setting for musical performances which do not need microphones, though a full integrated sound system is available if required. Any organisation that would like to stage events there should contact the Visitor Information Centre: 01926 492212
