Unlocking Warwick’s Court House Tour on Saturday 5th August was attended by a small group of local people – a family who live a stone’s throw away, and a young man who moved to Warwick quite recently and is developing his own online blog about the town.

They wanted to look inside the restored Court House on Jury Street, particularly the Regency ballroom on the first floor, and were keen to know more about Warwick’s history stretching back more than 1,100 years.

Unsettled weather with the threat of heavy showers may have kept many visitors away. But there are two more Court House Tours scheduled for August – on Saturday 19th, and Bank Holiday Monday 28th.

The tours start in Pageant Gardens behind the Visitor Information Centre at 11am. They are free to attend, and last about 45 minutes. Note there are no courts in the old Court House! The magistrates’ hearings were moved to the Law Centre in Leamington in the early ’70s. The old Court House, reopened in 2014 after refurbishment, is the Town Hall with offices and the Council Chamber, the Visitor Information Centre with a display about Warwick’s past, the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum in the basement, and the ballroom upstairs available for functions and performances.
