May Day Court House Tour
A reminder that on the May Day Bank Holiday Monday, there will be a ‘Court House Tour’ of the Jury Street Court House and its immediate surrounds starting at 11am.
These 45-minute tours by Unlocking Warwick volunteers are free to attend on a first-come basis. Numbers have to be limited for safety and practical reasons. Assemble in the Visitor Information Centre and the tour starts from the Pageant Gardens behind the building.
Don’t expect to see a court in the building. The magistrates’ court was moved to Leamington in the 1970s. The Court House is the Town Hall with the Town Council Chamber and offices, the Visitor Information Centre, the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum in the basement, and the Regency Ballroom on the first floor.
The tours tell of the buildings that have occupied this central site since Saxon times, the construction of the present building after the Great Fire of Warwick, and the recent refurbishment and reopening of the Court House in 2014. They serve as an introduction to Warwick’s history and heritage for visitors.
