Next Court House Tour 1st June
On Saturday the first of June, there will be another free tour around the Jury Street Court House with volunteer guides from Unlocking Warwick.
Starting at 11am, it’s a gentle 45-minute stroll round the inside and outside of the Grade-1 listed building, built in 1725 after the Great Fire of Warwick thirty years earlier, and reopened after restoration in 2014. There’s disabled access throughout.
As well as telling the story of the creation of Warwick corporation in Henry VIII’s time, the guides will give a brief history of the town itself, from its Saxon origins more than eleven hundred years ago.
Note that the Court House does not have any courts these days. The magistrates’ hearings moved to Leamington in the 1970s. Now the building is the Town Hall, with the Council Chamber, the Visitor Information Centre with a display about Warwick’s history, the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum in the basement – free to visit – and the lovely Regency ballroom on the first floor, which is used for a variety of community events and can be hired for private functions.
Meet in the Visitor Information Centre if you would like to join the fee tour.
