Plans for 2019

Unlocking Warwick meetings are held in the Town Council Chamber every two or three months.

On 21st January the Unlocking Warwick volunteers held our first meeting of the year and agreed a host of community activities for 2019. It’s going to be a busy year.

The dates and activities for the monthly afternoon social, ‘In The Ballroom’ were confirmed. They will be on the second Wednesday of each month, except in December when our traditional Christmas carols will be on the second Thursday. Click on the picture on the Home Page to see the list of talks and activities.

The monthly Tea and Dance Lessons have become increasingly popular and will continue this year on the first Tuesday of each month, from 2pm – 4pm.

Unlocking Warwick’s free Court House Tours will take place on selected Saturdays between April and September. During these 45-minute tours starting at 11am, guides take guests around the Grade 1 listed building and give a brief introduction to the history of Warwick from its origins in Saxon times. The first tour will be on April 6th. Have a look at our ‘What’s On in Warwick’ for the later dates.

Court House Tours will resume on April 6th

The What’s On – our long-term list of events with contacts for further information – has become extremely popular. Statistics for the use of the Visitor Information Centre’s website, ‘Visit Warwick’, show that the What’s On had no fewer than 26,000 page views in 2018, and a similar number looked at the calendar of events on this website.

The research for our Warwick War Memorial website – finding the stories behind the names from WW1 commemorated on the memorial in Church Street – will continue for a few more months. There are still some gaps to be filled in. If you would like to join our research team to look for information on the Ancestry website or in old newspapers at the County Record Office, contact Christine Shaw by emailing info@warwickwarmemorial.org.uk

The meeting also confirmed that by popular demand there will be another Warwick Christmas Regency Ball in December, the sixth since the Court house was reopened in 2014. Details later, along with some other events we are planning to help make the Court House/Town Hall in Jury Street a hub of community activity, celebrating Warwick’s rich heritage.
