The Tea in the Ballroom marks 200 years since the death of the novelist at the age of just 41.

All is set for the Jane Austen Tea in the Ballroom on Sunday 8th October on the last day of the Warwick Words History Festival, with all the tickets sold almost as soon as they went on sale.

Starting at 2pm in the ballroom on the first floor of the Jury Street Court House, there will be demonstrations of Regency dancing from the famed Jane Austen Dancers from Bath, some short presentations by Unlocking Warwick of Jane’s local connections and the significance of society balls 200 years ago, with one or two extracts from her novels.

Imogen Parker will sing some contemporary popular songs, and guests will be served an authentic Regency period tea of crumpets and madeira cake, with fine bone china provided by Pillows and Porcelain.

Guests should note that Sunday 8th is the day of the annual Warwickshire Fusiliers Association Church Parade, so there will be street closures in the central area from 1pm to 5pm. We understand that the roads closed to traffic will be Church Street, Jury Street, High Street, Swan Street, Market Place, The Old Square and Northgate Street.

So there will be no access to New Street car park. It might be good idea to try the Priory Road car park, (walk past the Eastgate into Jury Street) or St. Nicholas Park, which is also a short walk away – along Castle Hill and Castle Lane.
