Thomas Oken in the Ballroom Feb 2nd
The social gathering called ‘In the Ballroom’ returns on Thursday 2nd February, and will feature a talk by Trevor Langley called, ‘Thomas Oken Explains’.
In the Ballroom, from 2pm to 4pm, is an occasional informal gathering with tea, cake and conversation, organised by the Town Council and the Unlocking Warwick volunteers. There’s no need to book. Just drop in.
Thomas Oken was a wealthy merchant who in the mid-16th century helped to negotiate Warwick’s civil status as a corporation. He was a generous philanthropist establishing alms houses, and a charitable foundation that exists to this day. Local historian Trevor Langley will be entertainingly playing the role of Thomas Oken to explain his role in the development of the county town.
The next ‘In the Ballroom’ social gathering will be on Thursday 23rd February, and will be a tea-dance with Terry Perkins.
