Tour the Court House on Bank Holiday Saturday
Unlocking Warwick volunteers will be conducting a free tour of the Jury Street Court House on May 4th – Bank Holiday Saturday – from 11am to 11.45am.
The tour will take visitors round the inside and outside of the Grade -1 listed building while the guides tell of its construction by the noted architect, Francis Smith, in the years following the Great Fire of Warwick that devastated the centre of town in 1694. They will also introduce you to the Saxon origins of Warwick as a fortified town, and why the administration of Warwick was established on this central site in Tudor times.
There are no longer any courts in the building; it is the Town Hall, with the Town Council Chamber, the Visitor Information Centre and Box Office, the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum in the former kitchens (it will be open and is free), and the restored Regency Ballroom on the first floor. Sue and Paula will be waiting to greet you. There is no need to book. Just turn up at the Visitor Information Centre at 11am.
Court House Tours by the Unlocking Warwick volunteers take place on selected Saturdays throughout the season. If you can’t come to this one, the next tour will be on the second bank holiday Saturday of this month – May 25th.
