Two more tours in August

There are two more Court House Tours with Unlocking Warwick coming up this month – on Saturday August 18th and Saturday August 25th (the Bank Holiday weekend).

The tours start at 11am from the Pageant Gardens behind the Jury Street Court House and last about 45 minutes. They are free to attend, but numbers have to be limited for practical reasons, so first come, first on the tours.

Note that there haven’t been any courts in the building since the magistrates court moved to the Leamington Justice Centre in the ’70s, ending 400 years of petty sessions and magistrates’ hearings on this site at Warwick’s central crossroads. The grade-1 listed building is the Town Hall with the Council Chamber and offices, the Visitor Information Centre, the Warwickshire Yeomanry Museum and a fine Regency ballroom.

The volunteers will tell of the construction of the building after the Great Fire of Warwick and its recent refurbishment, and will introduce visitors to the rich history of the county town founded more than 1100 years ago.
