Warwick Words History Fair
The ballroom in the Jury Street Court House hosted this year’s Warwick Words History Societies Fair with local heritage organisations showcasing their work, with the voluntary groups probably hoping to attract a few recruits.
After some heavy rain outside had stopped, the event was well-attended. Many visitors came to the Unlocking Warwick stand where they could look at the special Warwick War Memorial website on an iPad. The website was launched to mark the centenary of the First World War Armistice, and has background information about the 358 names from WWI on the memorial in Church Street. We are still searching for more pictures and family stories.
There was a lot of interest at our stand in the monthly social gathering held in the elegant ballroom – called, appropriately enough, ‘In the Ballroom’! These events organised by Unlocking Warwick for the Town Council combine a talk or activity with a quiz, and there’s tea, coffee and cake and time to chat.
The schedule for the first six months of 2019 has just been published. Next year “In the Ballroom’ will be on the second Wednesday of each month, from 2pm to 4pm costing just £2 to attend. The last two editions of 2018 will be on 1st November and 6th December.
