‘In The Ballroom’ is back!

The very popular tea-talk-and quiz sessions we call ‘In The Ballroom’ returned on March 11th for the 2026 season. The speaker was the well-known author of books about local history, Sheila Woolf.
Her illustrated talk was intriguingly titled, ‘Here Come the Girls’. It was about the influx of young American women into English high society in Victorian and Edwardian times. They were seeking marriage to an aristocrat with a large estate, while the young men were interested in rich girls who would inherit part of Daddy’s wealth, because American law did not favour the eldest son.

Sheila Woolf called it one side seeking cash and the other side seeking cachet. Her brilliantly researched presentation had plenty of examples, many of them related to Warwickshire families.

‘In The Ballroom’ will continue on the second Wednesday of each month, at 2pm, with tea or coffee, a selection of cakes, a talk and a quiz. The line-up of speakers is on this website. Just click on the picture of In The Ballroom. It cost just £3 per person, to cover the cost of the speaker and refreshments.

But it is essential to book your place with the team at the Visitor Information Centre. Drop in, or phone them on 01926 492212.
