Pageant 120 commemorations underway
The 120th anniversary of the great Warwick Pageant is being marked with a series of events at the Court House.
In July 1906, two thousand local people took part in the history of Warwick ‘folk play’, enacted in the castle grounds over five days and watched by a total of 44,000 people.
This year in the Visitor Information Centre there’s a display of pageant photos, memorabilia and a replica of the head of the Dun Cow slain by Guy of Warwick. The 1906 film of the event is being shown on the centre’s screen.
On Sunday 5th July in Pageant Garden, actors from the local theatre group, ‘A Book of Portraits’, performed a series of episodes from the pageant, with children, parents and grandparents taking roles such as Thomas Oken, Robert Dudley and the legendary Guy, with music provided by a band playing medieval instruments.
And on Wednesday 8th July at 2pm, Unlocking Warwick will be presenting the story of the pageant at the monthly tea and talk, ‘In The Ballroom’. It’s fully booked, but you can ask to be on the waiting list: 01926 492212.
